what should i be getting as my first car? would a manual be ok?

I started driving last year I drove an automatic Toyota Camry now I’m thinking about buying a new car as I head off to college. My college is only 5 minutes away from where I live; I live in the Detroit area.
i was thinking about a manual ford focus zx3 or the zx5. I need to convince my parents that I’ll be fine once I drive a manual for a few months.

if you drive it every day, and you don’t learn the wrong way right off the bat. then you’ll be good to go after a week or so. Some people are faster some are slower. It’s good that you started on an auto, that way you know the rules of the road and get comfortable driving before you add complexity. I think your ready for a manual. No difference on insurance.
